That is more than the entire national defense budget. Every dollar lost to interest is a dollar that cannot go toward innovation, infrastructure, or tax relief for working families. Dave will fight to root out the waste, fraud, and abuse that costs taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars every year, recover funds lost to improper payments, and implement the kind of rigorous oversight that restores public trust in how their money is spent. Investigations into pandemic-era programs have uncovered staggering levels of improper payments. Conservative estimates suggest at least $200 billion to $500 billion may have been lost to fraud, with some third-party reports placing the figure even higher. I will fight to recover these stolen funds and implement rigorous oversight to ensure such a breach of public trust never happens again
