Restoring Economic Vitality

Dave Beckwith believes the government should never take more from hardworking families than it needs

In Northern Virginia, where the cost of living is already high, that principle matters most. He has a specific, three-part plan to fix a tax code that takes too much from families and homeowners alike, a plan to cut the red tape that's turned running a small business into a maze, and he believes healthcare decisions belong with patients, not insurance companies.

A 5% Flat Tax Rate

The current tax code is a maze, and that complexity almost always benefits people who can afford the best accountants, not working families. Dave supports a flat 5% federal tax rate for anyone earning under $200,000 a year.

In Northern Virginia, that means real relief: a family earning $175,000 currently pays roughly $21,400 in federal income tax, an effective rate of about 12%. Under a flat 5% rate, that same family would owe closer to $8,750, a difference of over $1,000 a month back in their pocket. Simple, fair, and it rewards hard work instead of penalizing it.

A Permanent $40,000 SALT Deduction

Right now, Washington taxes you on money you already paid to Virginia and your local county. The deduction cap was raised from $10,000 to $40,000 in 2025, but that relief is temporary. It's set to revert back down to just $10,000 in 2030.

Dave will fight to make the $40,000 SALT deduction permanent, so Northern Virginia families, who face some of the highest property values and state taxes in the country, don't lose that relief right when they've come to count on it.

Capital Gains Indexed to Pre-Inflation Prices

It's simply wrong to tax a homeowner on gains that are really just the result of inflation, not real wealth. In Loudoun County, the median home price rose over 41% between 2020 and 2024, but roughly half of that increase was driven by inflation alone, not real appreciation. Right now, a homeowner selling after years in their house can get hit with a capital gains tax bill on that entire increase, inflation included.

Dave will push for policy allowing homeowners to index capital gains to pre-inflation home prices, so families are only taxed on real gains, not on a number inflated by economic policies they had no control over.

Cutting Red Tape

Common-sense regulation is necessary for safety, but the current federal bureaucracy has become a maze. Since 1993, over 120,000 new rules have been issued, costing our economy billions, roughly the size of our annual deficit. It is estimated the average American inadvertently breaks multiple regulations every day just by living their lives. We need to codify regulatory relief into law so that future administrations cannot unilaterally reimpose stifling rules on small businesses.

Patient-Centered Health Care

Healthcare represents nearly 18% of our economy, yet costs continue to climb. We can lower prices without sacrificing quality by focusing on three pillars:

  • Absolute price transparency so you can shop for care

  • Expanded access to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) paired with catastrophic coverage

  • An end to corporate subsidies for insurance giants

Most importantly, we will protect the American research base that leads the world in finding cures, ensuring the next generation of medical breakthroughs happens right here at home.
