As someone who spent 30 years in the Air Force and continued serving at the Pentagon, he understands firsthand what our veterans have earned, and what they deserve when they return.
He will fight to strengthen the VA MISSION Act and Community Care, so veterans facing long wait times can see a private doctor instead of being funneled back into an overburdened bureaucracy. On mental health, Dave supports due-process protections in the VA's disability and fiduciary system, paired with community-based mental health partnerships, so veterans get real support instead of a one-size-fits-all federal program. On the disability claims backlog, Dave will push for real accountability reform, modernized claims technology, and expanded access to accredited attorneys and agents who can help veterans get their claims processed faster. And on veteran homelessness, Dave supports targeting HUD-VASH funding toward local nonprofit and faith-based partnerships, with a real emphasis on job placement and transition support as the lasting fix, not just another federal program.

Cutting the VA Wait
Veterans continue to face long waits for specialty care, especially in rural areas, and access to quality healthcare remains their top priority according to Mission Roll Call's 2026 veteran priorities report. We need to expand and strengthen the VA MISSION Act and Community Care program, so veterans can see a private doctor when VA wait times are too long, instead of being funneled back into an overburdened bureaucracy.
Veteran Suicide Prevention
VA data shows 6,407 veterans died by suicide in 2022, an average of 17.6 every single day. Some independent estimates run even higher when related deaths are included. We need due-process protections in the VA's disability and fiduciary system, so no veteran is reported to the federal background check system solely based on fiduciary status without a court finding, paired with community-based mental health partnerships instead of one-size-fits-all federal programs.
Fixing the Backlog
Benefits processing backlogs, staffing shortfalls, and bureaucratic inefficiency remain persistent problems at a sprawling agency of roughly 360,000 employees. We need real accountability reform, including making it easier to remove underperforming VA employees, modernized claims technology, and expanded access to accredited attorneys and agents who can help veterans get their claims processed faster.
No Veteran Left Behind
Housing access and homelessness prevention is one of the top issues veterans and their families want Congress to address. We need to target HUD-VASH funding and local nonprofit and faith-based partnerships over new federal bureaucracy, with a real emphasis on job placement and transition support as the lasting fix for chronic veteran homelessness.
