About Dave Beckwith
Dave did not set out to run for Congress. He set out to serve, and after thirty years in the Air Force, a career at the Pentagon, and seventeen years as your neighbor in Loudoun County, he realized that serving VA10 in Washington was the next right thing to do.
Dave’s StoryDave Beckwith has spent his career doing work that most people never hear about.
For over three decades, he has served this country in roles that required him to manage some of the most complex and sensitive national security programs in the federal government.
Most recently, Dave served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, where he oversaw a $500 billion portfolio covering space systems, nuclear defense, missile defense, and national intelligence. Before that, he led acquisition oversight for the Intelligence Community's major systems, including programs at the National Reconnaissance Office, the NSA, and the Defense Intelligence Agency. In plain terms, he was responsible for making sure the systems that keep America safe were built right, on budget, and on time.
His education reflects the same commitment to excellence that has defined his entire career. Dave earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Notre Dame on an Air Force ROTC scholarship, inspired by his admiration for the leadership of Ronald Reagan. He went on to earn a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton.
He is a graduate of the United States Army War College, one of the most prestigious senior military education institutions in the country, which prepares officers and civilian leaders for the most complex strategic challenges facing the nation. He also completed Air Command and Staff College and the Defense Systems Management College, and is a certified Program Management Professional through the Project Management Institute.
Dave retired from the United States Air Force in 2017 as a Colonel after a 30-year career. He then returned to public service as a Defense Intelligence Senior Leader at the National Reconnaissance Office, because serving his country was never just a job to him.
Over the course of his military career, he served in a wide range of assignments including tours at Air Force Materiel Command, the Program Executive Office for Airlift and Trainers, the Air Force Research Lab, the Airborne Laser Program Office, and the Signals Intelligence Directorate at the National Reconnaissance Office. Between his military and government service, he also brought his expertise to the private sector at Orbital ATK and SAIC, where he worked as a mission architect, systems engineer, and program manager.
Beyond his professional service, Dave's heart for others extends far beyond Virginia's borders.
He has traveled to Malawi, Africa on mission work, where he supports the education of 12 students and helps provide clean water and basic infrastructure through his non-profit work. For Dave, service has never been limited to a uniform or a title. It is simply who he is.
Dave and his wife have been married for over 30 years.
They raised and homeschooled their three children in Loudoun County, which has been home since 2009. He is a cancer survivor, a man of faith, and someone who believes that the best way to serve your community is to show up for it every single day.
